Avenica, aka "Mom", has been a blessing to us while getting both the farm and the animals settled, as well as making future decisions for both. While no livestock should ever be considered "bomb proof", "Mom" is as close to that as we'll ever come to on the farm. She is our proud matriarch of the herd with a long history behind her and an upright head and go attitude
Despite her age, her fantastic bloodlines still show what good breeding decisions can do. Her bite continues to hold, ... |

Gracie is our Black Friday surprise. We sent her dam, Avenica, to be bred, after three ultrasounds that confirmed her 'open', and got a call early Fri morning with those words "we have a problem" that no farmer wants to hear...after the moment of thinking we'd lost Avenica to age or something else, well, it turned out to be a surprise, a good one...Avenica was fine...and in the hour that the farmhands went in to have lunch, the three in the pen turned into four, with a tiny little miniature Avenica on the ground, nursing and bouncing around
From day one, little Gracie has been a friendly little bugger, always calling to someone to come and itch her, or be sniffed, or simply rub against, cat-like, to mark them as hers. Dependant on the light & the day (and if she hasn't found the nearest mud puddle after the rain to roll in), Gracie is a brilliant irridescent white with beige & fawn tones...she might settle out as a beige/extremely light fawn, but there's a lot of white in her fleece from her sire, Blizzard. She's an alpaca who doesn't want to be defined as one color
Gracie has an incredibly curious nature, wanting to know everything that's around her, that must be smelled and tasted, and she must be the center of attention, at first, until everything has been sniffed and gnawed to boredom. She often appears at the gate with a leaf in her mouth, presenting it proudly, or a long length of straw she's gnawing on, or a top-knot of hay that she rubbed her head in and needs it cleaned. She's a nibbler, wanting to taste everything around her. She's the first at the fence wanting attention, and likes itches...and itches...and more itches....and yet more itches..HEY!? I wasn't done getting itches!
Gracie will have her maiden breeding in the fall of 2021 for her first cria in the fall of 2022
